Centrica Business Solutions (CBS) is a global business unit within Centrica, set with the mission to help customers discover and unlock value via the energy-consuming and existing or new energy-producing assets on their sites. In North America, we design build and manage projects from small to large scale in the distributed energy spectrum. We have existing and forthcoming solutions for which we provide development, engineering, and construction services to deliver products and projects across North America for commercial, industrial, and institutional customers wishing to reduce energy consumption and/or generate energy.

The Commercial Construction Manager (CM) is a key leader in the Field Operations Team, and is fully responsible for the oversight and management of the project cycle for commercial projects. As the CM, you are a key contributor to project planning, including defining schedules and budgets; you provide direct support to the Engineering Team through plan-check and permitting; you coordinate with the Portfolio Manager to ensure the most effective construction schedule across the Centrica portfolio; aid the Project Managers in defining elements of work and soliciting bids for subcontracted work where necessary; provide direction and supervision of all field activities related to the physical construction of our systems; oversight for all quality and safety requirements on the project (in conjunction with the Safety Officer); provide technical support for materials and equipment planning and requisition; hiring and termination of Superintendents, Project Leads and other Field Operations personnel, as well as ensuring appropriate levels of workers are on site to ensure adequate progress of work, coordination of trades and overall project completion to meet contractual commitments.

Accountabilities

  • Lead all project activities and ensure field activities are executed according to plan, with deviations managed/reported in a timely manner
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to Field Operations team members
  • Performs risk-analysis/forecasting and mitigation plans for assigned projects in order to minimize any negative impact on Vista Solar
  • Establish and promote a safety culture within the Field Operations team
  • Identify new ways of working and lead the change to improve project delivery and cost efficiency
  • Proactively anticipate issues/barriers versus project plan and develop appropriate action plans in response
  • Ensure a clear understanding of the legal and regulatory aspects as they apply to the projects assigned, and ensure its full application
  • Work together with the procurement team on the planning and execution of a contracting strategy for the projects assigned
  • Develop sub-contractor partnerships
  • Represent Vista Solar at critical meetings and other governance bodies as required
  • Support the design process and permit submittal
  • Oversee all field teams and installation progress
  • Assist Project Manager in the development and management project budgets and schedules
  • Organize and manage all project data and archives
  • Aggressively pursue and implement paths to furthered growth and efficacy of the Field Operations team

Competencies and Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of experience in construction of commercial projects, min. three years in PV systems. ​
  • In-depth knowledge of construction products, practices, subcontracting and
  • project work flow/sequencing
  • NABCEP and/or Certified Project Manager (CPM) certification preferred
  • Experience in similar capacity on a project team for commercial projects directing crews or tradesmen in general construction, assembly and/or electrical work
  • Extensive knowledge of major PV components (PV modules, inverters and racking systems, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to lead craftsmen and construction crews
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Must have a clean driving record and valid license. (example, no DUI in the last 5
  • years)
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal, driving and drug screen
  • BS in architecture, engineering or construction preferred, or equivalent experience ​
  • PMP preferred or C-10 Electrical License / CA Journeyman certified
